Looking at the LA trio known as Hipnotics, you’d think they were your run-of-the-mill indie band. Instead their sound is heavily influenced by music made well before any of them took their first breath. The ’60s were an experimental time for music. Pop and rock from the soda shop were being edged out by artists like The Who, Led Zeppelin and Jimi Hendrix, and that’s where this review really begins.
Their latest single, “Not Enough Time,” really spills over into that decade. Right away it’s clear Hipnotics isn’t really in the here and now, and want to take audiences back to a time when music was really trying new things. Matt Erns’ vocals burst and really make this record come through with a force that will leave listeners wanting more by the end.
With some fall dates in Texas under their belt, keep an eye out in 2016 for more to come from Hipnotics.
