Venue Spotlight: The Wiltern

There are a lot of positives about this space and there is one huge negative. The Wiltern resides on a busy intersection that houses a grand array of public transit lines that make it easy to avoid paying for parking – which can be $20 on some nights. The Wiltern has a cascade of options when it comes to eating near there if you happened to be waiting in line for a show. Not to mention good ol’ Denny’s, McDonald’s, Ralphs and Coffee Bean are usually okay with you using their bathrooms throughout the day too. Just be cool and don’t leave them messier than they already be. The biggest upset when it comes to this venue though has got to be the horrendous way it’s set up on the floor. Tiers, oh those dang tiers. Being anywhere but the front section or the first row of the second can make it a little hard to see the show if you’re not the height of a NBA player, but despite that hiccup – it’s definitely one of my personal favorites.

A Favorite Wiltern Memory

The first time I’d ever gone to The Wiltern was my senior year of high school. It was for the Nintendo Fusion Tour back when that still existed and all I wanted to do was see Story of the Year. Yeah, yeah, My Chemical Romance was there – but I hadn’t fully fallen into them yet – so more “Sidewalks” please. Looking back though, that was a great show as was Fall Out Boy with The Starting Line, but I’d have to say we’ll come a little closer to now and go with Limp Bizkit as my favorite Wiltern Memory. Why? Because it’s kind of hilarious that I seen them there in the past couple of years and that I headed out to that solo. It was a magical night that felt like 1999. Really thought, this was partly because Fred Durst kept saying we’re in that year that saw Y2K and whatnot.
