In an ironic twist today we’re talking about a punk band that calls Washington DC home. The city with the most established way of thinking, and a group of punk rock dudes who go by The Split Seconds. Forming just last year, these four guys wanted to bring us back to when the genre started to rise up – the 1970’s and they’ve succeeded with their latest, “Cutting Out.” While a rock song, it has this feel to it that is reminiscent to what Billy Idol was doing back in the day when it was dancing with himself and whatnot.
While a lot of young bands are trying to keep alive what bands like the Descendents and Green Day started back in the day, The Split Seconds are going back a little further but are taking notes from today. You can hear the ‘70s influence in their attitude, but they’re not as abrasive as The Sex Pistols once were. If you’re a fan of pop punk that has a throwback sound, check out The Split Seconds’ “Cutting Out,” now. Also, if you’re in the DC area on April 8 – head out and see these guys rock it out at The Commune.
