Neighborhood Mixtape: Lawndale

During college Lawndale was just some town we’d pass on our way to a show here and there. It was never a place I’d stepped foot in until a week or so ago when it came time to look for a new place to live.  It’s hard for me to like a new place like it’s home. But there was something comforting about this area. The neighborhood seemed familiar, while at the same time being new – and it seemed safe; a big concern for anyone who walks as much as I do. Plus, on Artesia Blvd. you’re no more than four miles from the coast and amazing shopping. So as an homage to my new homestead, a mixtape…consisting of songs like the theme from MTV’s Daria because that was the first Lawndale I ever knew, of course one about being home from an American Idol alum, a song from a soundtrack to a movie shot down the street, one of the beachiest tunes ever and of course, one all about the idea of safety – enjoy!

Daria Theme Song

Daughtry “Home”

The Delfonics “Didn’t I Blow Your Mind This Time?”

Beach Boys “Surfin USA”

Men Without Hats “The Safety Dance”
