A Backstreet Boys fan until the day I leave this earth, if you asked me at 12 if I liked N’SYNC’s “Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays,” I would’ve lied straight to your face and said no.
Truth be told, they are a fine group but there’s no denying BSB is by far better – but one thing my Boys don’t have is a go to holiday song like N’SYNC and over the years we’ve heard a number of artists do their own renditions including Loren Smith, and this year we have the LA pop duo Honey and Jude’s take.
Giving the song a bit of an acoustic makeover, Honey and Jude break the song down to the bare bones but still allow the vibrancy of the pop to remain at the forefront. So don’t worry, they didn’t turn it into a dramatic song one can find on Christina Aguilera’s Christmas album; seriously, girl can sing about chestnuts roasting for 20 minutes with all those additional runs. Anyways, what you get from Honey and Jude’s “Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays” is what’s to be expected if you’re familiar with their California cool vibe. It’s light, it’s cute, it’s fun.
If you’re making a mixtape that only consists of “Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays” (because why wouldn’t you?) then be sure to add this one to the list. For more covers and to check out their single “Weirdos and Freaks,” head over to their Facebook for more. Also, can we campaign for them to cover some BSB?
